During this time when we are confined to our home, I’ve come to the realization that my homeschooling philosophy (if it even counts as homeschooling) has become very art-centric. My son’s elementary school teacher has been gracious enough to host a Facebook Live drawing class every weekday and so we do that every day. Our math lessons often involve a solve the math equation/ color by number activity. Our outside time sometimes involved drawing with chalk on the driveway. And I’m frequently encouraging both kids to draw pictures either for themselves or to send to a family member or a friend. This experience is confirming things that I’ve always known…. That art is essential, I don’t care what your STEM teacher taught you. And art soothes the soul.
It turns out that art is a great activity to do during a global pandemic when you’re confined to your home. At a minimum, all you need is a paper and pencil… which most of us have lying around! I’ve been seeing so many free art resources being offered right now that it really just makes me so happy. And I hope people are taking advantage of it! Here is a short list I’ve compiled. This is not all-inclusive it’s just some of the ones I’ve seen. If you search around the all-knowing internet I’m sure you can find many more!
